A weekend in a millionaires mansion in Leiston, was a very good reason to knock off another 2 Adnams watering holes in the area. After a short nose around Leiston earlier during the day, I formed a plan with Mr. Barton, which also incorporated a bit of deer watching, to visit the Engineers Arms and The Eels Foot Inn.
1st stop was the Engineers Arms which is situated in the town centre of Leiston.
With me on this stage of the trip was Carl and Adrian, who were both making their debut's on the Adnams blog trail.
We arrived at the pub at about 4.15pm and we basically had the main bar to ourselves, in fact we did have it to ourselves! On walking into the pub you are immediately greeted by a rather disturbing site if your not from around the area. A signed Ipswich team photo! Carl felt right at home and after calming himself down, got the first round in. The walls were actually totally covered in football memorabilia, and I'm guessing a lot of it had been provided by Ipswich supporters. I didn't spot any Colchester scarves pinned up anywhere, so that's something I'm definitely going to have to remedy. Rather disappointing was the fact that only Adnams Bitter and Broadside were available, but hey, the Bitter went down very nicely. All three of us enjoying a pint, although I was designated driver so only a half for me.
The pub itself is on a split level, with a large eating area on the lower level, and main bar with Sky Sports available and Pool table in the main bar - where we spent our time. It dates back to Victorian times, but has been very well maintained and all of us agreed that if it were our local, then we'd be in there a fair bit! Sorry, what was that Clare ?After thrashing Carl at Pool (but then losing to Ade) we supped up and moved on out. The next pub was summoning and we had a date with the Bartons. As you can see from the
photo, Carl seemed to like hitting the red ball first as opposed to the cue ball!!
