No.37 - The Bull Inn, Cavendish, Suffolk

Friday 22nd April, 2011 - and from the Cock we were onto the Bull !
Once we'd cleared up at The Cock Inn it took us about 10 minutes to make the short drive to The Bull Inn at Cavendish. The time was now 1.30 so we knew we had missed the lunchtime rush, but I couldn't believe how few people were at the pub when we arrived. Literally no-one!

The pub dates back to the 1600's and is situated just off the main Cavendish High Street. Again like Clare, the village in which the pub is situated is very picturesque with a lovely large village green and an abundance of public houses, which is why I believe this Adnams pub was fairly quiet when we arrived.
On entering the pub from the rear you walk straight into a lovely drinking area with a huge open fire place, which I would imagine in the depths of winter would be a very welcoming site. The bar area was spacious and the bar itself nicely stocked. Broadside, Bitter and Spindrift were on tap, with a variety of bottled Adnams also available. Again I went for an Explorer with Clare plumping for a nice fruity soft drink. Before exiting for the garden I had a quick nose around the pub and found it to be very charming, although it seems to lend itself more to diners than to drinkers. I did notice that accommodation is available which is always a bonus if too many Explorers have been sunk !

On exiting the pub to the garden - well courtyard if I'm honest - the pub loses some of its pretty image as the back is no more than just a bit of a concrete jungle with a patio and car park the only places to drink, although in saying that the pub does back onto Cavendish Bowls Club which does actually have a lovely meadow like field attached. It made me wonder whether my grandad would have had a pint in this pub as he was a big fan of playing Bowl's and played pretty much everywhere around Essex and Suffolk.

Before we left for home there was just time for Florence to join me for 5 mins on the garden swing. Think we might have to get one of these for our garden !
