No.42 - The Blyth Hotel, Southwold, Suffolk

Sunday 11th December, 2011
Feeling slightly warmed from our Tally Ho it was a 10 minute walk back towards Southwold High Street to find the award winning Blyth Hotel.
The hotel had recently won the 'Winner of Best Restaurant 2011' in the EADT awards and on first impressions it was easy to see why. Now although we didn't sample the award winning food, the restaurant and bar certainly had a successful feel to it.
The interior of the building was beautifully decorated, with a magnificent Christmas tree in the hotel lobby. With the weather taking a bit of a turn for the worse, the atmosphere in the hotel certainly made you feel like staying warm and cosy all afternoon. The Edwardian building with it's 13 rooms was a sure winner with the 3 of us and will now, I'm sure, be a regular spot for us to visit on our annual trip to Southwold. In fact being the 1st building you see as you arrive at the bottom of Southwold High Street, I'm amazed we haven't frequented it before.
Obviously being a hotel, the selection of beer was a little limited, but Broadside was on and that was what the 3 of us all went for. Sole Star and Bitter was also available along with Spindrift. Furthermore, lining the bar shelves, were all the Adnams 'Christmas' drinks - Mixed Spice, Sherry and Sloe Gin.
After a very enjoyable hour sitting at the bar with Tony and Andrew, it was decided it would be best to make a move and catch up with all the ladies, who were now sipping Adnams Gin in The Swan. For me though it was home to The Rope House where my good lady wife was tending to young Florence. Actually, Flo was asleep and the X-Factor was on, but hey-ho, I'd had my fill of 'Blogging' action for another Christmas break in Southwold.
