On returning home from a family fun filled weekend up at Caister, The White Hart beckoned us in for lunch on our return home journey to Ipswich. This was a pub that my family once used on many occasions as a half way stop after day trips to Southwold, Dunwich and further afield, and as luck would have it, the weather was now at its best it had been all Bank Holiday so al fresco lunch was a must.

The White Hart is a traditional country inn with superb views over the Blyth Estuary offering bird watchers a great chance for some 'twitting' - or is that something else these days ? The pub, which bares some very impressive oak beams throughout the bar area, actually dates back to the middle ages when originally it was used as a court house sentencing people to their doom, fortunately for us though there was no doom today. We all ordered our lunches and drinks and headed on outside.
Once you are out the back of the pub the A12 suddenly becomes a distant memory. You are greeted by a huge 'pub garden' which just keeps going and going all the way down to the Estuary. Its a beautiful sight. There are ample tables set up for visitors -I would say there were about 30 tables dotted about - which is a sure sign that this place must become very popular in peek periods. We had no trouble at all finding a spot to eat and once settled down the children were then able to go for a run.
On tap in the bar was a good mix of Adnams. Spindrift, Bitter, Regatta, Explorer and Broadside were all available. After the heavy weekend that we'd just endured I plumped for a Bitter, which combined with my minute steak rustic roll, went down a treat! One downside to the lunch was the side order of wasps that we had delivered to the table. I think they suddenly realised that this was a Bank Holiday so it was prime time to annoy everyone - which they did - but I must say to all you wasp lovers out there, we did take a few of your friends out !
Finally, once lunch was done, there was just time for some more photo shooting, with my Brother in law Tom now making his debut on the blog. Hopefully the first of a few, oh and just one minor thing, the pub did lack a pub sign, so if your reading Mr. Adnams, could you get one sorted so I can add it to my blog ? Many thanks ;o)
