No.3 - The Kings Head, Orford, Suffolk

A Grant Day Out !
Sunday 8th March, 2009
We all set off from Purdis Farm in beautiful sunshine at about 1.10pm and arrived 30 minutes later in the lovely village of Orford, where another 2 of my Adnams listed pubs were situated.
1st stop was The Kings Head.

I'd gathered a small posse for this trip in my Brother & Sister in Law, Lewis and Vee, along with 2 of my nephews, George aged 2 and a half, and Samuel aged just 14 months. Also joining me again was the now 35 and a half week pregnant Mrs. Blake.
We parked up in the ample sized car park and walked the 100 yds or so to the front entrance of the pub. On entering the very cosy looking public bar, we were greeted by the Land Lady who instantly found us a sizeable table where we could sit and have our drinks, and also spend some time flicking through some of Peppa Pigs greatest works.
Broadside, Adnams original and Oyster were all available so both myself and Lewis sampled the Oyster, which went down a treat.
The interior of the pub was very quaint, and well kept for a 13th century inn which I learnt later was rumoured to have been used as a smugglers den back in the day.
The pub was very busy with a good Sunday trade, but despite that, we were still made to feel very welcome by all the staff. The lovely old wood burner which was roaring away, left us with a nice warm glow.

We left the Kings Head and headed across the road to make a quick detour to visit Orford Castle, which George had got very excited about the evening before when he realised we were visiting somewhere with a 'real' Castle. Unfortunately, like most buildings of its time, it was situated at the top of a hill so the breeze was pretty stiff. So breezey in fact that George decided to re-name the site 'Windy Castle'.
