No.6 - The Castle Inn, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire

Friday 19th June, 2009
Cambridge, not the easiest city centre to find your way around in by car, but after using the help of 2 innocent locals, we eventually took the correct turning off the Ring Road and found The Castle Inn.

With no car park however, it cost us £2.00 for a pay and display down the round, but hey it was another Adnams pub, so I wasn't gonna grumble too much !

The 3 of us arrived at lunchtime, with Florence Blake making her long awaited Adnams debut, and we managed to find a nice table outside in the back concrete garden, with all the local students for company on their lunch break!

Inside the pub was a real mixture of old and new decor, but it was definitely an Adnams pub. Southwold regalia was dotted about everywhere. The pub seems to have been recently refurbished with several rooms on different floors offering up nice cosy chairs and quiet areas to eat and drink. The main bar itself, although not today, I imagine could get very busy with the main door leading directly out to the main busy road.

We went straight in for a Regatta, but we could have had The Bitter, Broadside or Explorer. For a 'towny' pub it had a real nice local feel to the place, and all the staff were friendly and helpful towards us. Despite a little whinge, Florence thoroughly enjoyed herself, and couldn't have spent her 9 week birthday in any better surroundings !
