No.23 - The Cherry Tree, Harleston, Norfolk

Saturday 24th April, 2010
Hmmm......Harleston!

When we (the NCT group) decided to pop up to Diss for the weekend to celebrate all our little ones 1st Birthday, obviously I was straight out with the Adnams pub list to see what was nearby. Harleston was the answer, which was home to both The Cherry Tree and Cardinals Hat, as well as an Adnams shop. Being only 10 miles away it was the perfect destination.

1st stop on the Saturday afternoon was The Cherry Tree which is situated along the main road leading into Harleston. We all arrived at about 4.30pm in the glorious late April afternoon sun and headed out to the back to their very nice garden area which housed an enormous covered barbecue and some swings and slides, as well as about a dozen picnic tables.

The chaps took a wander into the pub to get the drinks in, while the chapess's entertained the sons and daughters with the variety of play things which are now required for any journey or day out. Inside the pub there was the usual mix of different rooms and alcoves you now come to expect with the Adnams pub. There was a nice looking little restaurant area and the main bar area was nice and spacious and clean kept.It wasn't very busy at all, in fact apart from ourselves there were only 3 guys at the bar, one of them wearing a Norwich shirt - Oi where's our money for pinching Lambert!

The only disappointing factor about our trip out was the selection of Ales available to us. There was only Broadside and The Bitter available on tap along with a strange sounding guest beer, but that's not to say the beer was disappointing. Far from it. Everybody, bar one of us, all plumped for The Bitter which tasted beautiful. Very well kept and along with a few nibbles it made for a smashing hour in the sun which unfortunately had to come to an end as our hungry little people needed to get back to our barn to be fed. The plan was to also visit the Cardinals Hat today, but babies hunger ruled I'm afraid so that will be for tomorrow!

Before we left for home, there was still time for Florence to try and manage the art of sliding! Here she is being ably assisted by her mum. Bless 'em.
